The Spectrum of Engineering: Research Situated in Regional Contexts (Vol. II)
Keywords:
Contextual engineering, infrastructure and power, digital transformation, territorial sustainability, engineering cultureSynopsis
This collective work offers a plural and contextualized view of engineering as a discipline situated within specific territories and memories. Through case studies in Chile and Ecuador, it examines infrastructure as a device of state power, digital transformation towards artificial intelligence-based auditing, the construction of social housing with sustainable materials, and environmental education for waste management in rural communities. It also analyzes how earthquakes have shaped Chilean engineering culture, driving technological innovation and resilience. The work engages with critical and humanistic approaches, demonstrating that engineering is not a neutral technical practice, but a field shaped by history, politics, territory, and sustainability.
