It explores the notion of the apocalypse as a matrix of intelligibility during historical crises, tracing the shift from classical eschatology to contemporary discourses of catastrophe. Furthermore, the study applies these categories to Peru’s political trajectory, analyzing the breakdown of the colonial temporal order in the 1814 Cusco rebellion, the tensions of an incomplete modernity, and the emergence of a local presentism characterized by institutional apathy and the consumption of heritage. Lastly, it reevaluates the intellectual role of the historian in an era of temporal fragmentation, proposing the historian as a "sentinel of time" tasked with recovering historical depth, critical distance, and intergenerational responsibility.
