Under the shadow of oil. Environmental assessment and soil recovery strategies in the Peruvian Amazon
Keywords:

This work examines hydrocarbon contamination in Lot 192, located in the Peruvian Amazon, and proposes remediation strategies to recover the affected soils. Based on an environmental assessment grounded in official reports, the most impacted river basins and predominant contaminants are identified, including medium and heavy hydrocarbon fractions, as well as heavy metals. Various bioremediation techniques applied under conditions similar to those of the Amazon rainforest are compared, highlighting the efficiency of activated sludge for degrading the most persistent fractions and natural attenuation with compost for lighter fractions. The work concludes with guidelines for implementing remediation and monitoring strategies, emphasizing the importance of considering territorial conditions, institutional capacities, and community participation to ensure the long-term sustainability of interventions.
