Between tradition and competence. Beliefs, technology, and transformation of university mathematics assessment
Keywords:

This book explores why competency-based assessment in university mathematics remains anchored in traditional practices despite curricular reforms. Based on a study with teachers from Piura, it shows that digital tools and the belief system have an impact on how assessment is conducted, but it reveals something deeper: beliefs operate as an invisible architecture that silently organizes evaluative practice. Diagnostic assessment is omitted, formative assessment is partially implemented, and summative assessment is privileged because it confirms those inherited beliefs. The book proposes a pedagogy of evaluative consciousness: only when teachers make visible and problematize their conceptions about mathematics, its teaching, and its assessment will a genuine transformation become possible. A work for teacher educators, academic coordinators, and researchers interested in educational quality.
